According to informed sources, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order to once again delay the enforcement of the “sell-or-ban” law targeting TikTok.
As the June 19 deadline approaches, Trump is expected to issue an executive order to temporarily postpone the implementation of the law mandating either the ban or forced sale of TikTok, in order to prevent a complete shutdown of TikTok’s operations in the United States.
This would be the third reprieve granted to TikTok since Trump assumed the presidency in January, following two previous 75-day extensions in April and June.
The White House had originally been promoting a deal aimed at giving American investors ownership stakes in TikTok’s U.S. operations, but the plan stalled after Trump imposed new tariffs on Chinese imports in early April. According to U.S. government officials, although the basic framework of the deal remains intact, it is unlikely to move forward until U.S.-China relations improve.
It is highly likely that Trump will grant TikTok another reprieve. “There is an 80% chance that TikTok will receive a 75-day extension and continue operating in the U.S.,” said a Wall Street executive involved in the TikTok negotiations led by Trump.
