U.S.-China second trade talks to take place in London

On Friday, former President Donald Trump announced via his social media platform, Truth Social, that a U.S. delegation—comprising Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer—would participate in the upcoming negotiations.

Trump also stated, “This round of talks is expected to proceed very smoothly.”

Previously, on Thursday, Trump held an extended phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping in an effort to ease ongoing tensions between the two countries over trade issues.

The United States and China had reached a 90-day trade truce agreement on May 12, temporarily suspending further increases on certain tariffs, some of which had exceeded 100%, in order to allow time for further negotiations.

The second round of U.S.-China trade talks is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 9, in London. During the meeting, the three senior U.S. officials will meet with the Chinese delegation to conduct consultations on a potential trade agreement.
